"Pain perdu" literally means "lost bread." It means french toast. I recently got a bread machine from Freecycle, and boy am I having fun with it! It has a timer delay so my bread is still warm when I get home! It makes the entire apartment smell yummy. On Tuesday I made a delicious Walnut Wheat Bread (recipe from King Arthur Flour). Okay, so the recipe called for pecans but I had walnuts from my ice cream social I hosted this Sunday. We only had a little bit of bread left so I sliced them about 3/4" thick. Let them sop up that cinnamony egg batter goodness and voila! French Toast. Here's the first two cooling on a rack. (I'm gonna but them in the fridge so DH can just pop one in the toaster for breakfast tomorrow). I would serve this with some powdered sugar or whipped cream and fruit. I'm salivating just thinking about breakfast tomorrow.
Barb sweetly emailed me to let me know she was behind on my apron. The anticipation is tough! I'll wait patiently because it's gonna rock!
